Here is a run through some of the basic editing tools found in Photoshop Elements. If you read the page Improving your Photographs you will know how to change brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness this can be done in any of the three levels of Elements. The photograph to be edited has a number of faults, red eye is very evident, this can be easily fixed by clicking on the appropriate icon, the cursor changes to a cross, clicking on the eyes solves the problem. ![]() You need to be in the full version of Elements to do the following tasks. There is a spot on the nose and a few other minor blemishes these are easily removed with the spot healing brush. Click on the spot healing brush a small circle will appear this is your brush. The size of the brush can be altered by going to the top left hand corner you will see the word Size, type a figure or if you go to the down arrow a slider will appear. Make sure the part of the image you are editing is large on the screen by using the zoom control, the hand icon will allow you to move the image around the screen as required. The brush should be slightly bigger than the area you want to correct, all that is needed is a click on the blemish to remove it. |
![]() There is a crumb on the lips that needs to be removed. This time the clone tool is used. The brush should be larger than the crumb we are covering up, choose an area to take the sample from, press alt on the keyboard and click on the mouse, next click on the area to cover up.

![]() The clone tool is used to remove a packet on the right hand side. The centre of the pram wheel in the background is distracting so the brush tool is used to make the whole wheel black using the darken mode. Lastly the picture needs cropping closer so the crop tool is used to trim as required, when it's correct click on the tick and it's trimmed.
![]() The result is an improved photograph and nobody will know about the faults that have been corrected.
