Lake District Photography The lake District is a landscape photographers paradise, no other part of the country has such a wide variety of outstanding scenery. You can't fail to take photographs you will be delighted with. Windermere is the largest lake with tourist steamers and literally thousands of smaller vessels varying in size from luxury cabin cruisers, sail boats to the humble rowing boat. Visit Bownes, Windermere on a sunny weekend and you could imagine that you're at the seaside, with hundreds of people by the lake enjoying ice creams, taking boat trips or enjoying the view. The other extreme can be found at Bassenthwaite lake where you will probably find one or two fishermen by the side of the lake. There are sixteen lakes, all shaped differently, of varying sizes and with their own distinctive character. At peak holiday times the Lake District can get very busy with tourists visiting from all over the world, so if possible it's best to avoid these times. We visited in June, even at this time of year the car parks at popular spots such as Tarn Hows and Hill Top were full. There's a good reason for that lush green countryside, a plentiful supply of rain falls in the Lake District. One minute it can be sunny then the rain starts and a misty haze envelopes the whole view. The changeable weather can make interesting photographs, dark leaden skies or distant mist adds to the appeal. In Autumn the golden foliage of the trees can make a shot, in winter snow on the fells looks particularly attractive. So whatever time of year there will be excellent photo opportunities. Any camera is suitable for landscape photography, when it comes to lenses most photographers prefer a wide angle. If you're at the edge of a lake don't forget to include some foreground interest such as rocks, trees, boats, ducks etc. This kind of interest can make the difference between an excellent or mediocre picture. So if your landscape photography needs some inspiration take a trip to the Lake District, you won't regret it. |
